VW put the kybosh on those VW floor mats. I used to get them from www.bugcity.com, be he only has the floor mat with a BLUE logo, looks cheese.

ReplyDeleteyou can buy kick panels from any VW shop. I do not believe 61 had them originally, but you can still put them there.

ReplyDeletewww.cip1.com sells the chrome wire baskets (w/ cup holders). The Samba has a few sellers also, but not in the chrome color that Chris uses. Recently, I purchased a few from Cip1 and they were great (good quality). Recommendation after buying one, bend the front two metal legs just a bit to have a snug fit. This will reduce the chances of your hot coffee spilling when turning.
Chris, I sold my 61 VW. Ben came up from NM and fell in love with it. I began working on my 56 Ragtop resto. Shouldnt be too hard since it is all original and Cali Car. I see you have a new 54, NICE!!

ReplyDeleteI have an amateur question, passenger side mirror installation. Do I have to take out the original hinge pin and go with a different one? Or, does the hinge have a cap that comes off and the new mirror can instal like the drivers side? This is for a 56 ragtop.
Chris, any updated photos of your new 54 from Mississippi? What color will it be? (hopefully black with red wheels :)

How the heck do I change the seals on the pop-outs for my 63 bug?
ReplyDeleteIs there any easy way to change the hood seal (old seal there) without having to bend up the metal lining??
ReplyDeleteHey Mike! To put a mirror on the passenger side, you have to take the hinge pin out. You need a special tool to do it. An air tool actually. I had my body guy do it for me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as far as the front hood seal, before you send it out for paint, I lift the channel a bit so when I get it back I can slide the seal in.

ReplyDeleteI have been tracking your 56 rag for a while and have been scratching my head as to why you have not been able to get 20K+ for the bug. I use it as a model for my 56 rag resto. In my opinion, you should have been able to get closer to 25K for it. Whoever gets it, will get an outstanding bug!
Your 58 rag looks great so far, another great bug from classicvwbugs!
Too bad I am in the military and not on the east coast yet, I think I would love to come and work at the shop with you. A dream occupation if you ask me.
Keep up the great work Chris. Because of your great work, Im sure I might pick up one of your bugs one day.

Hi everyone, I am in Germany(originally from Northern VA). This is a great site and I want to thank Chris for a quick response on a carb isssue with my 69 bug which I purchased in Stuttgart recently. The car is I would say about 98 percent original and in a tremendous shape. If any of you have any tips for this year's bug, please share. It will be greatly appreciated.

ReplyDeleteChris, I noticed that you had an accessory clock in your 56 Rag dash that is for sale. Did you have to cut the dash (the vertical metal strip)?
I purchased one for my 56 rag and appears that I might have to cut that out to make it fit properly...not to mention that I have to remove the original speaker.
Any help would be great.

ReplyDeleteI have a VW that is my daily driver, I love it to death but I'm having two issues that I'd love to fix. 1: During cold mornings if I start it up and let it idle to a warm it will quit about a minute through, but if I drive it's fine, definately nothing to do with carburator settings I've ruled this one out. Any ideas?
2: When driving for long periods at high speeds and then I stop and idle I'll get the green oil light flickering ever so slightly. Does this mean I need a new oil pump? I've checked the oil pressure relief and it's fine, the pressure switch seems fine as well.

ReplyDeleteI'm in the process of a total repaint inside and out of one of my 54 sedans, all weatherstripping, moulding, glass, and beading is removed. My question is, should I keep the fenders on loosely or have them removed and painted individually?
Hey frank I'm no master like chris but I would say the paint will turn out better if you have the fenders off.
ReplyDeleteChris, I'd like to rewire the key ignition on my 69 bug. Someone for some ungodly reason, has it where you turn the key and then it has a starter button. Why - I have not a clue.
